Is it better to sit in the back of a classroom as opposed to the front to have a better chance of surviving in the event of a school shooter?

Conversely, if the doors are located in the back of the room, is it better to sit in the front, away from the doors?

I am sitting in the front in a lot of my classes, but in light of the recent shootings, I'm considering moving to the back if it will be safer.

  1. I would ask your school principal about having emergency drills.

  2. Unfortunately we cannot prevent what another person is planning to do, nor can we predict when, or where such a tragedy will happen again.

If, and we all pray it will not, something like this would happen I would not think there is a safe place within the room it self.

I can understand the stress and anxiety this must cause many who are in "schools".

Glee, as home school parents we do not deal with this issue directly yet, but our children will choose to go to college as well, and we have family/friends who have children in schools so this affects all of us, and is a major concern for all parents, and students alike.

  3. What kind of world do we live in where we even have to ask these questions.  It is so depressing.  My biggest fear in school was making sure my homework was finished on time.

  4. Its better to sit in the back, even though it is further from the doors, the person shoot is less likely to shoot you. I would just stay calm, and not draw attention to my self. Try and follow the crowd so you arent alone.

  5. under a table

  6. it depends.. is the shooter in the room already, sitting behind you, in front of you, beside you. of he/she is entering the room? and if they are entering the room are they going to just stand in the door way, are they going to walk straight to the back?

  7. get home schooled.

  8. Nearest any exit would be my guess. Too bad you can't carry a gun. It's difficult to throw a knife very far.

  9. There is no good place to sit.  The best thing to do is get out of the classroom instead of sitting there and hoping the shooter won't shoot you.  Unfortunately, you can't control what the shooter is going to do- there is no good answer for this question- just get out!!

  10. the further from the door the better. my friend is so paranoid about the school shootings that he brings at least a can of bear spray with him wherever he goes

  11. Man what has this world come to that our kids and adults alike are worrying about such things. Very sad!!

  12. It depends.  You should sit away from any window.  If you are lucky to be in a class that does not get bombarded by a shooter stay away from the door

  13. the safest place is in a corner that is not visible from the door

  14. ita better to sit in front

  15. in the event of a shootin some ppl aim for the ppl they want to kill some times you dont have a chance but just get under the desk army crawl under other desks away from the bad guy.then wait untill he commits suicide :)

  16. u can sit in middle......

  17. This is homeschool. We don't really have this problem in our homes.

  18. In an Australian classroom.  There are almost no guns here.  What do you know, there are hardly any shootings.  I wonder if there is a connection between the two?

Personally I find it just as easy to be "free" knowing there's no chance of being shot dead at school or anywhere else than I would if there were guns all over the place.

  19. under the desk

  20. This depends on were the shooting is coming from.

In 1962 I was in 1st grade and the windows in our class room began to pop out as buckets flew through them. The teacher told us to get on the floor and crawl toward the front and out the door.  This situation any were in the room was a bad seat. (We all made it out no one hurt; they told us it was a hunter lost in the woods!) However looking at most of these last incidents I would sit up front near the door. When a perp enters a room the easy quick shots are in the back. Sitting in the front near the door, you may see them coming in. The other possibility is when the perp comes in and as he is shooting you may be able to run fast enough past him out the door. The other thing is you may be able to ‘rush’ the perp saving the day!  So sit in front near the door.

  21. Try to transfer to a different school.

Sit at the side against the wall, and curl up in a tight ball under a desk, or near the door, or window so that you can escape quickly..
