  1. pets at home used to do it

  2. Buy some (cycle) good stuff!

  3. Go to any Aquarium shop and ask, have you been to one at all?

  4. Pets at home still do, do it, you can also get it free with any new tank?

You could just as easily leave your tap water out for around 48 hours, this de-chlorinates the water.

  5. Hey Lucy,

As mentioned in previous posts.  You do not have to use chemicals as they are not really good for the fish.  Is this a new tank?  If this is a new tank it is recommend that you leave the water for one week, add the fish and after 4-5 days do a partial water change of 10% of the tank/bowl.  This keeps the fish de-stressed but allows you to provide more oxygen for the fish.  Seems like a long time to wait but well worth it.

    Hope this helps :-)

  6. B & Q or any tropical fish shop will do it but any B & Q stocks it

  7. it's called dechlorinator and it removes the chlorine from the water (this is dangerous to the fish because it cloggs their gills up and they can't breathe)

    Try your local petstore

  8. Just leave the water standing in an open bowl for 24 hours before you put your fish in - it does the same job.

  9. have a look in a pet shop or a garden centre (if they sell fish!) also try an experienced fish shop, if they dont have it which i think is very unlikely ask them where you can get it from. u may be able to buy it off the internet.x

  10. you can buy it from your local fisheries its called stress coat from api and its £8.45 for a 237ml bottle.

  11. Tetra make "Aquasafe" for goldfish and Interpet makes "Fresh Start"  which I use. Both remove chlorine and heavy metals from tap water making it safe for fish.

I have a 180L tropical tank and do 20% water changes every 2 weeks or so, I use some rainwater from a waterbutt and the rest tapwater as I breed apple snails and they need hard water for their shell developement. Leaving the water to stand for 24 hours is ok for a small goldfish bowl but anything bigger you should use the right treatment. It doesn't hurt the fish in the slightest.

  12. I use Seachem Prime, not only does it remove chlorine and chloramine it also detoxifies ammonia.  Ammonia once detoxified is converted to ammonium and is safe for your fish AS LONG AS your PH is under 7.0.  In my view it is the best conditioner and treats far more than most on the market.
