Where is the transmitter for most cars' keyless entry systems located in the car?

I just got a used car and it supposedly has a keyless entry system. The remotes for the system work, but the signal seems to be getting lost. I'm trying to find the transmitter to see if there are any loose connections.

  1. The lock control is generally placed under the dashboard.

Using the keypad put your head under the dash and press the lock or unlock.  Most systems generate a sound and you may be able to track its location that way.

Also make sure the battery in the pad is not worn out.  You will need to open the controller and get  replacement battery, general 3-5 dollars and are sold at walmart, target, radioshack, automotive stores, etc.

Also I'm assuming you meant receiver, because the keypad is your transmitter.
