The world can be anywhere - in your mind, in your chosen domain and even your IIT or IIM can be that.

The physical world is our Earth (3rd rock from the sun), in Solar system, in Milky way galaxy three fifths of radius from its center and so on.

The question is philosophic. The visible outside presence we perceive as 'World' that is interpreted by our senses with all associated limitations. Knowledge of the other imperceptible attributes are gleaned from inference, deduction/induction and a whole world of mathematics. Brain (ours) has world's replica, in an intricate array of interlinkages that are symbols. For us 'world' is symbols of (in) the mind. Everyone's brain maps differently. To have common communications basis, we resort to schooling and other types of brain washing.

Around 1968, in Azerbaijan (may be 'Baku') scientists from all over the world assembled for a humongous seminar. Agenda was the project SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)   that was later changed in scope to CETI (Communication replacing Search), with Drake's formula as focal point. Maths (of course), Astronomy, Physics, Physiology, Archeology, History, Psychology and more subjects discussed having relevance to the agenda. The proceedings came out in a book from and is worth reading to know what is 'world' in the present physical setting.
