So, I've lived in the Durham area for a few years now. When I took my driving test a couple of years ago one of the things I learned was that the max speed limit in NC is 70 mph on interstate highways.

However, since I've been driving, I've never run into one of these roads, despie driving in some fairly rural areas (e.g. I-85 north of Durham, I-40 west of Chapel Hill), which are all posted at 65.

Where are the 70 mph interstates in NC?

  1. Most of 95 is 70 mph, except around Rocky Mount, Fayetteville, and Lumberton.  I-40 is mostly 70mph, except where you live.  East of 95, from Benson to Wilmington it is all 70 mph.  The weather is getting nice now, take a ride to the beach one of these days, there is almost never any traffic on that stretch of highway either.  West of you on I-40, the 70 mph continues.  It lowers around populated areas.

  2. It is 70 mph along portion of 95 and 40 in a few places. FYI, In many western states the speed limit is 75 such as NM, MT, WY, AZ, CO,ID,UT & NV And the winner of the nations highest speed limit goes to..... Texas! With a posted speed limit of 80 MPH in west Texas along interstates 10 and 20 Enjoy!

  3. Anywhere you want to go 70+ mph! lol
