I'm planning on going to Rome, Venice, Florance, Milan and the Amifa coast by Capri. Are there certain areas that have more than others?

  1. Watch yourself in Florence. There are a lot of Gypsies and panhandlers that work in teams to rob you.

  2. I can't believe nobody said this, but Naples is the most famous city in Italy for pick pockets... so much that Italians joke that there is a University of Pick Pocketing in Naples.

The Amalfi Coast is very close to Naples, so that would be your answer, in effect.

HOWEVER...  This kind of crime is very common throughout the large touristy areas of Italy, so you should be on guard in all of the areas you listed, especially in places that are typically crowded, like train stations and subway stations.

  3. Open tourist areas and railway stations

  4. everywhere. just be careful in busy places.

  5. Rome is heaven for pick pocketers! Watch out, but if you have common sense you'll be fine.

Watch out on public transport (the bus number 64 from Termini to Vatican is the well known for pick pockets!) Also on the crowded metro and...well..any public transport...and anywhere crowded and touristy.

If you are with people who carry wallets in their back pockets, get them to keep things in their front pocket. If you have a hand bag make sure it is closed, and kept close to your body. If you have a stachel thing that is best as you can put it over your body.

Don't be scared though - as I said above just common sense!
