Question:

Where is water under my carpet in the bedroom coming from?

We recently moved and under my bed was sitting water on the carpet. When we pulled the carpet back, water was on the concrete. It's not by the wall, and there should be no pipes in any of the surrounding walls to that room. (Room is far from bathrooms/kitchen). We lef it pulled back and it dried up over night. Mold was growing in the carpet pad, but not enough to suggest the problem was long-term. Also, the walls were not wet at all. What could it have been?

  1. My guess is condensation from the air conditioner, if the out-flow tube is clogged or missing water can drip on the floor and will go to the lowest level.

  2. Could be that you have water pipes running through the slab that started leaking. You can call a leak detection specialist and have them trace out water lines that might be under there. It's amazing how they can pinpoint a leak in concrete using their equipment. If that's the case, a plumber will have to bust out the concrete to fix the leak and then repour the removed concrete.

  3. Crack in the concrete?  Could it be something that perked up from under the slab because of heavy rains?  You didn't say where you were.

  4. Pretty sure it is from the air conditioning condensate line.  It's probably stopped up or is disconnected.  Sometimes you can blow thru the lines to clear them if you're lucky.  You'll probably want to remove the carpet padding and vacuum up as much water as possible to prevent odors.  A fan blowing air across the carpet will help it dry.

  5. ill bet your house is over 20 yrs old!,,, ill guaranty you have a pipe leaking in the slab. this is a very common problem in older homes. call a plumber.
