Where on the NSW coast (north of Sydney) is affordable with good jobs?

Question

We currently live in Sydney but sick of it.

We're thinking of moving up the coast but we need to find an area that still has enough employment opportunities, a good place to bring up children and something affordable - a nice house for perhaps $350,000 or less.

I have looked at www.realestate.com.au and other real estate sites. Sure, I've found a heap of houses but I don't know the areas and have no idea about employment in those areas, so I guess I'm looking for information from people who have moved from Sydney themselves and have suggestions.

I have been told that South West Rocks, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie are nice places but is there enough work there?

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe the Central Coast area? I don't live there but the houses up there don't look too expensive to me.

Instead of being worried about work up there just get the weekend newspapers of places where you are interested in and have a look through there job section and just through the paper in genral to see if its the kind of place you want to live in. When ever we move interstate that's what we do and we like to move about once every 3-4 years.

Also job web sites are a great indictator of what jobs are there and how many jobs. But also if you really like an aarea and there's not many jobs just fly up or down to the area and stay a week trying to get yourself a job. I'm a vet nurse and go to all the vets and animal parks beofre we move and talk to the owners and tell them my situation. Sometimes you get a job as exactly what you want so who cares if there arent heaps of jobs as long as theres a job for you.

My hubbie owns his own it business so he can move where eva he wants without a worry.

There is lots of jobs and nice houses and nice beaches.
