  1. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (also known as Viva la Vida) is the fourth studio album by English alternative rock band Coldplay. It was released on 12 June 2008 in the UK and on 17 June 2008 in North America. In May 2008, Coldplay released two successful singles from the record: "Violet Hill" and "Viva la Vida", the latter becoming the band's first song to reach #1 in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Viva la Vida (literally in Spanish: Live [the] Life!, but the actual and intended meaning being The Life Lives On! or Long Live Life![5]) takes its name from a painting by 20th century Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The album's artwork features the painting Liberty Leading the People (La Liberté guidant le peuple) by French painter Eugène Delacroix, commemorating the July Revolution of 1830.
