my child was placed into a daycare by her father and i feeling that it was a good place for her. On friday June 27, 2008 she came home with the most malicious child bite on her knee. The school failed to notified us, and when we called they knew nothing about the incident that occured while she was in their "care". I have the pictures as evidence of the bite, and would be happy to share them with you. The severity of the bite was shocking. Her father and I can, litterally see an impression of the entirity of the childs teeth from this bite. I understand kids bite that is not the main issue. Our concern is that the caregivers at the location did not know anything about it. That is negligence on their part. On the same day while in the location, I saw the same caregiver yell at a child for falling off the indoor slide. She failed to check for the child's safety, and continued to yell instead of checking her head she just yelled

  1. i don't know where you are, but in the uk, the minimum carer to child ratio is

    0 to 12 months  1:3

    12 to 36 months 1:4

    36 to 50 months 1:8

so i think your place is understaffed.

i would change daycare provider, as they obviously don't care.

if my son falls over or anything at home, we have to sign a form saying that he came in with a bruised knee or whatever.

  2. Kids bite.  Some daycares  have a "no tolerance" policy, while others do not.  What is the policy of yours?

If you are concerned for your child's safety, you have one choice: remove her from the daycare.

  3. Okay, well you can report them, and I would find a new daycare ASAP!

  4. How old is your daughter?  It may be hard for the care givers to catch everything.  Since it was on the knee you are going to see the teeth marks more.  If your child is old enough to talk...she could have told the teacher.

if you don't feel comfortable with your child's safety then pull her and find other care.

  5. have you ever turnedaway from your child for a moment only to turn around and find that she had your lipstick on or had used her food to remodel some part of your house?? well how long did that take, children hurt each other and things happen it can take as little as 5 secconds. i work in a daycare where there are usually 2 of us and only like 10 kids. if one person is busy changing a diaper or something else that leaves them completly unavailable then all it takes is for the other lady to be sepperating to kids fighting over a toy for another group of boys to start fighting behind her... its impossible to watch every kid at every seccond... its also impossible to forsee everything that might happen sometimes a kid can look completly content then they hit the kid next to them.. especially 2 yr olds and young 3s

  6. I would suggest you find a new daycare if possible. But at the same time children do bite, and depending on how many children they have I am sure its hard to see everything that happens.I would ask your daughter if she had said anything to one of the caregivers, and then would be concerned if she had and they didnt do anything. As far as the yelling goes that is definantly unacceptable, but at the same time it could have been a simply stressful moment that the caregiver snapped. Maybe the child had done it many time and she got frustrated, BUT I DONT THINK IT WAS RIGHT!!

  7. TAKE YOUR CHILD OUT OF THAT DAYCARE. IMMEDIATELY. REPORT THEM!!!
