Me and my boyfriend want to move to spain. A nice quaint town by/on the sea would be fantastic. We are in our late 20's so somewhere that has some younger people would be great.

Which areas are best?

  1. I'm afraid you're kind of contradficting yourself - in Spain if there are young people, then the tourists seem to find themselves there, too! It's tough now to find nice, "untouched" beaches, really, unless you really go out in the sticks - but assuming you speak spanish that would be fine. If you don't speak Spanish then you'll find it very difficult (or even worse, if the place is a small village in Catalunya, they'll speak to you in Catalan).

I  understand the aim, but I would reccomend somewhere near to a big city of you need certain big things (like furnitre, or big shops/shopping centres, etc.) rather than limiting yourselves to a really out of the way place. Just an idea.

    Have fun!

  2. How about the North of spain? in and around Santander/Cantabria province is a nice place I'd recommend on the Atlantic side... plenty of nice beaches up along the north coast. If you're in the south of Spain you will likely have to put up with drunk obnoxious tourists..costa brava, malaga, marbella places like that.   The North has stayed traditional, you won't find many english speakers, and the tapas and general cuisine are the best in spain.  You can get to San Sebastien in the Basque country from there easily as well as Biarritz in the south of france, which are fantastic beaches..  I've lived for 3 years in Logrono, La Rioja an hour or so inland.

  3. There really are no beachside community where young people live mainly because these areas are very expensive and young people typically can't afford it.

And any beachside community, no matter its location, will boom to 3 or 5 times their population in summer.

There are, however, a few small communities in Galicia like Cambados and Combarro. These cute little fishing villages are small! But they definitely don't have a young communtiy - just the opposite. Few young people tend to stick around in small villages, most going to the big cities. But keep in mind that while the summers and springs are nice on Galicia's coasts, the winters can be absolutely brutally cold and stormy. But, in part for this reason and because it's relatively isolated from the rest of Spain you don't typically have any foreigners living there. There, and in Galicia in general, the beaches can be quite nice but they're fewer than in other parts of Spain.

Going to any other part of Spain which has nice beaches will likely "invite" hoards of tourists (Spanish and otherwise) during the nicer months.

    Best of luck!

  4. Malaga is a very nice town by the sea as is Barcelona (although Barcelona is a lot bigger) - Madrid is fantastic if you want to live it up but if you want a quieter more traditional city you'd probably like Valladolid  (where everything still stops for 3 hours in the middle of the day for lunch and siesta).

  5. Why Not try this place in the north of spain!!

it has great beaches but not/if any tourists

try this link it tells you abit more about the place

  6. I agree with some of the others Malaga a great city and on the outskirts you have some quaint towns and villages aswell as having the coast not to far away.

there are jobs here aswell so you will fit into the communites quicker and enter the system for healthcare etc.

  7. Check this

    http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=36.27...

It's called Conil de la Frontera. I just visited there with a buddy of mine. It's a nice little village on the beach. It's a beautiful place. And close to Sevilla also

  8. Puerto de Mazarron Murcia for some excellent beaches and no English tourists,,but not much in the way of night clubs,,a bit dead i winter but alive for the other 9 months

  9. will you be looking for work there? if so you would need to live in the south and near a city as most of the holiday areas in north spain and majorca close during the winter, the south of spain also gets cold in winter season.

  10. Castelldefels, Malaga, Badalona(i guess)...all I can think of.

  11. Come and be our neighbours!

We moved out to spain 10 years ago. I'm english and my boyfriends Brasilian.

We live in a small fishing village in Malaga. Its called Sabinillas. Its lovely. we actually live on the beach. our house is on the paseo (which is like the prominade) of the beach. There are plenty of spanish bars and restaurants, and the people are lovely.

As with most places, it not full of young people but neither is it of old people.

My boyfriend's step father is spanish and is a fisherman. In the summer you will find all of the balconies of the houses along the beach full of fish. in the summer flying fish are caught and hung to dry in the sun and are sold at 2 euros each. so this is why most people have them

We dont have any discos in Sabinillas so its never full of drunken tourists.

Nearest place to go out at night is Estepona, the port is full of small discos and is only 10 minutes drive away.

We have a shopping center half an hours drive away in Marbella, Gibraltar is also another half hour drive away in the other direction (i work here)

So I would definitely recommend this village!

Never know, I might bump into you one day!

  12. If you've come into some money then we can all answer your question, but if you have no capital then you will have to think again.

Everybody wants a quaint place to live by the sea. Some actually find it, most of them are retired and have saved for their retirement. I mean no disrespect in my reply, it's just not that easy moving here.

For a place further from big cities and tourists, look in the Mazzagon area near Huelva. The beaches are some of the best in Europe.

  13. How about Almeria area some good unspoilt beach villages in the province.

Trouble is now is a bad time to come to Spain especially if you have to earn a living.

Do your  research before committing yourselves.

  14. You could try around the Palomares, Almeria area.

Generally the apartments in Palomares are cheap to rent or buy. Give the website below a visit they have a section on the area around Palomares and Villaricos.

  15. Malaga is a very nice town and area!
