  2. It depends on the type of camcorder you want to get.

    DO NOT GET A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

    If you are shopping for a cheap consumer camcorder, any electronics department at Target, Walmart, Sears or whatever will have a selection.

    DO NOT GET A DVD BASED CAMCORDER. They have poor video quality - especially if you want to edit on a computer - and the discs are a pain.

    DO NOT GET A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

    MiniDV tape based camcorders continue to provide the best available video quality (DV=Digital video). Next best are hard drive and certain higher-end flash memory based camcorders. Sony, Canon and Panasonic are the usual good quality manufacturers.

    Other places to shop and buy - Some full service camera stores; electronics stores (like Fry's Electronics, Best Buy)... and if you decide to shop over the web, Amazon.com, Adorama and B&H Photo are all reputable.
