Question:

Where should I do community service? I'm 15 (almost 16)?

I need to do more community service to get into a good college so what places should I do it at that will make me look really good?

Note: I'm not a totally selfish person who is only concerned for herself. I also really do want to help people/animals/the world. But i don't really mind what I do to help. I volunteered at the library last year but they don't need anymore help this year.

I'd like to volunteer at a place that's somewhat close to home (I live in the suburbs)

Many, many people I know volunteer at Kaiser. However, if I do that too it's not going to seem too special since everyone else is doing it, right?

  1. Contact Helps International.com or any Mormon church nearby.

  2. That depends on where you live.

Here's a website that helps alot

    http://govolunteer.ca/select.html

SHARE is really good. They accept people easily and They have lots of events and they e-mail you to ask you if you have time to go.

There's also this other event I found called: 2008 Winners Walk of Hope

    http://www.winnerswalkofhope.ca/

    They are looking for volunteers.

  3. Volunteer your time to the elderly at a retirement village in your area, or the Red Cross / Salvation Army (if you have that in America) Donate your blood (this doesn't happen very often anymore although many hospitals are in desparate need of supplies) Help out at your local firestation, ask your council if they need any help regarding any youth groups they have organised, volunteer at your local hospital sitting with seriously ill children telling stories to cheer them up, call local charities and volunteer your time helping to raise money, hold your own charity function for a local community group or charity you feel is a worthwhile cause......

It will only seem special if you really have the drive to help people, your attitude is what makes you shine....

    Good luck!! and have fun!

  4. you should volunteer time at an animal shelter, or maybe with the red cross, or habitat for humanity.. something like that..

  5. Definetly try at animal shelters.  They always need help walking and bathing and brushing and playing with dogs and cats.  Also, nursing homes are always in need of some one to help  with some of the residents.  Sometimes just visiting them makes their day because they can be very lonely.  Also check at non profit organizations in your area.  Look into things that interest you.  I love watching detective shows like American Justice or Cold Case Files.  Because of that, I volunteered for Families of Homicide Victims in my area.  I pass out flyers on unsolved murders.   Look for something you are interested in around your area and see if they need help.
