Don't. Use a credit card when possible for the best rate, plus it's much safer than carrying around cash in Brazil.

If you need cash for incidentals (taxi, etc.), withdraw from an ATM - small service fee but good rates.

Your ATM card will get you the best exchange rate. Don't exchange money using cash--chances are you'll be ripped off.

The black market is usually the best option as you get a better rate. Should be able to make a deal with one of the hotel workers.
