Where should I go for a quick vacation?

Go to Quebec City that's the best place in 2008 for all of the above. but if you want to stay in the US try Philadelphia.

Costa Rica is the perfect quick getaway! It's like a 6-hr flight from LA and only about $300 (on American.)

Our family loves it there -- we always go rafting and tried a new sport called canyoneering -- we had good luck with a local operator (their name means "Challenge" in Spanish) -- here's their website:

Very professional and they organize everything from transport to hotels, activities, even restaurant recommendations. Nice people and prompt -- good prices. You can see a lot in like 5-days -- it's a small, pretty-modern country, safe with a lot of rainforest and tons of things to do (rivers, beaches, volcanoes, hot springs, etc.)! We budget about $80 per day with all food, transport, lodging, activities.
