Only there for 24 hours (sadly), any suggestions for dinner? My hotel is near the airport (I think... zipcode is H4S2G1), looking for something with a nice wine list, great food in the $15-35/plate range.

  1. If you're near the airport and you like prime rib, steaks or spare ribs, you are only about a $15 cab ride from Le Biftheque (pronounced - well - biffteck) on Cote de Liesse.

Excellent food and wine too. Bilingual staff.

  2. Go to the Le Plateau region...There's an awesome Portuguese restaurant which is out of the way, but excellent food. It's a cosy atmosphere too, and it's the only restaurant on the street. It's just off Saint Denis. I believe it's a few streets to the North of Rachel

  3. There are no good restaurants around the Novotel Hotel, but you can take a taxi to some not too far away. Sources Boulevard has many restaurants and shops that will please just about any palate. St. Jean Boulevard is one exit further, and has pretty good fare there too.

Jack Astors serves American-style food, such as Tex-mex, steaks, seafood, and others. The wine and drinks list is not bad. they are in the shopping center on Sources.

Marathon Souvlaki has some of the best Greek dishes in town, with a good calamari, but can't promise about a wine list. It is on Sources.

Moe's Deli & Bar is another steakhouse and has a variety of beers, wines, and spirits. It is a bit more lively, especially when a sporting event is happening. They are on St. Jean.

Baton Rouge, a bit farther up St. Jean, offers some of the best ribs in town. It's a bit more upscale than the ones I mentioned, and should have a good wine selection. Be careful, because all portions are huge.

There is also a very good and high-class italian food restaurant on the corner of the mini-mall where Moe's and a computer store called Microbytes is located. I can't remember the name, but their wine list was extensive, and the food was good too. It should be on the corner of St. Jean and Brunswick Blvd.

    EDIT:

I saw someone suggested the Bar-B-Barn as an option (along side Moishe's?!). The Bar-B-Barn has two locations, one downtown and one near the hotel where you are staying. Their specialty is supposed to be ribs and chicken, but I have never been impressed with the quality of the food in the Bar-B-Barn in the West Island. The chicken was dry the three times I had it, and the ribs were very big, but tough. The one downtown was okay, but you probably don't want to pay $40 taxis each way to go downtown for ribs when Baton Rouge is closer and has better food.

  4. if you like a good steak , go to Moishe's Steak house - it compares to any of the top steak houses here in the states ( Morton's , Peter Luger , etc. ) , but if you love ribs , or if you want to taste the absolute BEST ribs in the world , go to Bar - B - Barn , 1201 Rue Guy .   Gerry Donnelly ,  Snapshot Travel

  5. McDonald's on the corner of Sainte-Catherine Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard looks rather promising!

And after overindulging on all that mouthwatering yet fatty and unhealthy food, you could unclog some of your arteries on one of those scrumptious "filles de joie" standing right outside the restaurant - if you heart so desires.

BYOB though and BYOC too, lol!

    Enjoy your delicious meal dear!
