Depends were you will work.  Auckland is a big city with many small towns within it.

I'm gonna assume that you're working somewhere in or near the CBD...  you could look for places in Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Newmarket, Newton, Grafton or Eden Terrace.... all are within about 30-45mins walk from Aotea Square/Queen St.

I used to live in Eden Terrace (Edwin Street), and it took me just over 30mins to walk to Aotea Sq.  Or I could catch a bus (they come about every 5mins down Mt Eden Road in the morning) which would take about 10-15mins.
