Where should I live in Sydney? Youthy, fun suburb wanted.?

I currently live in Auckland and am moving to Sydney.

I know Sydney a little, but not much about the culture of individual suburbs. So perhaps someone could shed some light on some suburbs?

I'm looking for a city fringe suburb that has it's own local bars - casual type places with a bit of class. I am a young professional and want to live around similar types of people.

If you also know Auckland it could help. In Auckland, I live in Kingsland and love it. I'd like to live in a similar type of suburb to Kingsland, Grey Lynn or Ponsonby.

The next tricky part is finding a place to live...

  1. Bondi Beach

  2. The previously mentioned suburbs would all be good. Also consider Balmain which is a short ferry trip from the city and is a bit more upmarket.

  3. Anywhere in the inner city or inner west area would be great. These areas are both in proximity to the CBD.

Places such as Balmain, Drummoyne, Glebe.

If you care about crime, avoid south-western/western Sydney. By western I mean the outer west.

The richest places are the North Shore, Eastern Suburbs and Northern Beaches - they're great places you may also want to look at if you don't care about prices.

    Good luck!

  4. Glebe, Annendale, Newtown perhaps are starting points.

    Ultimo, Pyrmont even.

    Chippendale?

They are all fringe to the city with bars/pubs alike.
