  1. Any moving parts that contact another part.  Whatever you do DO NOT use WD40.

  2. CHAIN THE MOST IMPORTANT and shifter brake stays where the brakes are hinged **not the brakes** and if you don't like to see rust on your bike then the gears and don't forget the bearings in the crank and wheels hope this helps

  3. Every part that needs oiling

  4. Away from the house and not on the drive.

Oil the chain at 10cm intervals one drop at a time, the base of the pedals, the wheel spindles and the derailleur mechanism if you have one.

Don't use too much oil, we don't want to drown the thing, just a couple of drops is fine done regularly, and DON'T be tempted to try oiling brake cables or brakes, ha ha.

  5. the gears or were theres are squeaky sounds

  6. AT ANY POINT WERE THERE ARE TWO SURFACES MOVING AGAINST EACH OTHER.

  7. I agree mostly with Sir Richard [above] - especially DON'T oil the brake cables.

Rather than Oil - get a special silicon grease spray from a decent bike shop - racing or MTB specialist etc and use that - more feffective and less mess - on the carpet/ driveway etc.

  8. I agree with Richard and Tony, just one more thing.

If you're riding a mountain bike, you're probably riding in some kind of dirt or at least not on paved roads.  Any extra oil you put on your bike will be a dirt magnet, so make sure after you lube the bike that you wipe it down before riding (it's best to let the lube sit for 10 minutes so it can be absorbed). Also, if you use a wax lube (like Pedro's ice wax) instead of oil, you will attract less dirt.

    good luck.
