Her name is mispelled, will that matter down the road? How do I fix it if it needs to be changed to relect the correct spelling?

  1. Yes, it matters.

I would sign her up for an online account...then you don't have worry about storing them and you can get the name corrected during the conversion process.

Otherwise, any safe place is fine.  Just be sure that you have a record of them (Name, SSN, face value, purchase Month & year, serial number) in a separate place.

  2. Yes, you should have the mispelling corrected, it will make your life easier later.  Just take them down to the bank, they should be able to help you get them reissued with the correct spelling.  As to physically storing the paper bonds, do you have a safety deposit box?  That is where I keep our children's bonds.  There is also a website by the US Treasury called Savings Bond Wizard where you can enter the number from each bond and it will tell you the value of each bond and recalculate the value as it changes over time.  It is also a good way to have another list of the bond numbers if you need to know them later.
