Where should I place my wireless router?

Question

My house has TWO FLOORS, each floor is about 100 sq.mtr, and is wholly built with beton/concrete. I want the range to cover both floors, plus some more area around the house.

The router's antenna can be vertical, diagonal or horizontal.

I know the signal spreads in a certain pattern (what is this called? the spread spectrum or something?) so it would be useful to know how do the signals spread in the air.

So please tell me where to put my router and the way to which to direct its antenna!

You only need wireless for roaming devices.  As long as you can access your wireless for devices that require roaming, you are fine.  For stationary devices, I recommend powerline instead of wireless.  Check this video out: http://www.cnet.com/4520-7390_1-6274537-...

Put it in the middle of the house some where so you can get internet everywhere and hopefuly you have a powerful wire less router

i would say on top of the computer box and the antenna sould be stright up because the router can reach a range of 300ft. but that is how mine is and it works great i get on the Internet all the time with my PSP.

2ND floor cuz it spreads in an horizontally and Will cover the 1st floor and patio and garden

Closer to the area that you are going to be at the most. If you get a good router then you wont have to worry about where its at. Go with Linksys. Its really good and they are really good with distance.

Mine is NOT near the center of my house, but it is on the main floor. It's a Linksys, so I wasn't worried about the amount of distance, I knew it'd be fine. Antennas are straight up, we run 3 laptops (wireless) and a wired desktop off it, it's wonderful. I think if you have a linksys you'll be fine. i'm sure I can get signal in my basement, but have never tried it.
