Where should I spend my birthday and where should I go?

My friend is having her wedding on my birthday (a Saturday) in Malibu and I want to do something after the reception, which ends at 8:30. Should I stay in Malibu and celebrate (where would I go and what would I do?) and get a hotel there, go to nearby Santa Monica, go to Hollywood, or go to the area where I live (which is near Pasadena) and do something there? It's my 25th bithday by the way

If you plan on drinking and don't have someone to drive for you, I'd go closer to home.  The PCH is not a road you want to be on if you've had anything to drink, especially on a Saturday night, just ask Mel Gibson.

If you plan to eat in Malibu, which is a good idea, try Moonshadows, you might need to make a reservation -right now- if you want to get in, but I think going later it might not be a problem.

Avoid Dukes, I've gone a couple of times and the service and food are really hit-and-miss.

If you decide to wander into Santa Monica, check out the restaurant at the Viceroy Hotel.  Super-elegant.
