  1. I would start with the shelves first. Chances are, you may have things up there that you've forgotten about, and may not even need. Best to clear these off first, so that you have a starting point when you start organizing other things. If you have a lot of paperwork laying around, my suggestion is to buy some folders - whatever kind you feel will help organize best. Sort through any and all papers, put them in the appropriate folders (even sort them by date if it will help later), and arrange them on your shelf so that they have a place. For anything else in the room, sort them and put them in boxes. You really want to make sure you've got them sorted out so that you can find things easily later. If you have room, you can always slide the boxes under the bed for the time....Then they are out of the way, and hardly noticable.

Just one hint here...I do not know what type of paperwork you might have laying around, but if you have things like old bank statements or things of the sort - shred them! You should only keep those things for as long as you need them (like matching the balance in your register) and then get rid of them.

It may seem daunting now, but once you get going and see results, it gets easier...and in the end you'll feel better too! :)

  2. start by not spending time writing questions on the computer. It's always daunting getting rid of clutter and finding new homes for stuff.

beware the place will look messier for a while before it gets better.

Get hold of a few box files and storage boxes. Then clear all the sufaces of clutter putting them away appropriately. If you just move it without organising it will only cause you problems later. Once the bed is clear put on clean bedlinen and just unplug the printer for  the time you guest is there.

  3. Hi there :) I know how overwhelmed you must feel. You should have seen what my office looked like a few weeks ago. Can you buy some of those cardboard boxes you old out yourself that have a lid? If not, buy some of those plastic boxes all the same size so they can stack. Then get all of your 'stuff' and organise it into piles. Put each pile in one of the boxes and label it. Put the boxes you don't need right now under the bed or in a cupboard. Once you have organised all of that the hard work is (hopefully) over. Can you buy a small fold out table for your printer? Or unplug it as the other poster suggested and put it away while your guests are there. Hope I have helped...good luck! You will feel so much better when it is done.

  4. Invest in a nice looking file cabinet that you can use as a night stand. Maybe two. You can always cover them with a table cloth when company comes. Starts going through all the papers and sorting them in piles. Then make a file for each one and before you know it it's all in alphabetical order and organized. Keep an in-box on your computer desk for the things you are working on now.
