Hey there, so I took your guys advice, and I'm just going to ignore my cousin and see if i can't start leasing a horse, I've talked to my mom about it, she's up for it, and my grandma who's going ot pay for it is on board, so now I only need the horse. Yay. But I've checked at my barn, there is one horse, and I wouldn't be allowed to use him in my lessons or anything of that sort, I'd only be allowed to hack him 3 days a week, which I think is a ripoff for $400 a month. --;; Anyways, any ideas of where I should start looking? I've leased a school horse before, I'm thinking of putting an ad up on some horse websites, see ifI can't get anything. Any ideas? I've searched for what seems like ever, but alas nothing. and i'm stuck. D;

  1. i would go to the local tack shop/feed store and start talking to people, hear where they ride and what barns they know of and take the information.. and go visit the barns.

    you can also google " [your area] boarding barns" so that you can just find the barns..

    when i was looking for a barn i got a bunch off the Internet and through suggestions, and just started visiting them, talking to the owners and seeing what it was like.. i, of course, was asking about board but you can just ask if they have any horses for lease or if they Ive lessons (lessons in a new discipline may be more rewarding)

    though, although the Internet is great, word of mouth is much better!  i don't know if you have any adult friends in the horse industry, but they are always a wealth of information... vets, farriers, massage therapists and just older members of the horse world ALWAYS have something to say!

    good luck!

  2. i found my first lease on Horsetopia. Just be careful and do your homework. for $400.00 a month you should have full rights and be able to use the horse whenever it suits you.

    watch leases also with vet costs and farrier bills!!!! good luck

  3. Not to shoot down the question but, why lease? I've been riding for about 12 years and there are so many people who will PAY you to ride their horse for excercise or gladly allow you to ride their horses for free.  I paid for all of my lessons by excercising horses as well and its fantastic. I am not sure the level of riding you are but if you are decent, chances are you could very easily call up some barns and ask if they need someone to excercise for them and they will JUMP on the chance for it.  If you do wish to lease, I would not suggest a place where they do NOT use your horse as a lesson horse. (Make sure you ask). Most barns have leasing, I would do some google work and also call up local barns in  your area if you do decide to go this route and ask them if they have any horses you will be able to lease. Keep in mind each lease is different and sometimes you will be sharing the horse with another person in that lease, make sure to ask if you will be the only rider if you do lease. Also do not forget to ask when you will not have access to your horse. What the barn hours are etc.

  4. I would go on www.equine.com or www.equinehits.com

  5. try www.dreamhorse.com. that is where i found alot of my horses and they have horses for sale and for lease. there is alot to choose from too.

  6. http://www.dreamhorse.com

    http://www.equinenow.com

    http://www.equinehits.com

    http://www.craigslist.com

    i would recommend getting involved in pony club or 4H because  there are a ton of people who can't do it anymore, so they lease or sell their horse/s to people to use.
