Where should I start to look for someone? {More details in question}?

16 years ago someone left me and all I have is his name. People won't tell me anything about him at all.. just the name.. is it impossible to find someone like that? If not, where do I start? I have an important date too if that helps.

search in google...

then also search in state wise directories if you know the state...

i found a lot of people in my friends list from google...

I would start by looking into the state that you are now in! Then I would get into the records that show births on the day you were born. Then I would eliminate the girls and concentrate on the male births. I then would look at the female that gave birth to sons and hopefully she listed his name as the father.  If you find nothing, I would review the females who gave birth and maybe a clue will jump out at you. That is the best way I know     to narrow it down to discover your parents.
