Where should I start voicing my opinions about global warming and how we should stop it?

I'm young and really want to get involved in some free online campaigns against global warming, and then hopefully upgrade to some very hands on activities in the community. If anyone has any ideas of where to start that would be wonderful! Thank you!

  1. Shawna, you should start right here in YA.  You'll learn things here you won't find anywhere else.  The skeptics are the wisest, so it's more important to pay attention to what they say.

  2. You shouldn't, you should read more first. The IPCC tells us that "global warming" is due to man made emmission of Carbon Dioxide and similar greenhouse gasses, but they've not produced any evidence to prove that this is the case. What we have is that in their their opinion it's "very likely" to be the case. See chapter 9 of their last report. Despite what you are told, there are not 'thousands' of scientists that have reached this opinion... it was only reviewed by 62 people!. All but 7 of these was paid to reach this conclusion.

Before you rush off and change you life I recommend you look aroud for a little more 'evidence' and 'proof' instead of following the 'opinion' of someone who's paid to hold it.

By all means please put your youthful energies into something that is without doubt worthwhile, like campaining for more recycling, better energy utilisation, reduction of atmospheric and terrestrial pollution... but not the global warming one... it's going to be shown to be a folly.

  3. That's a very wise question.

If you are serious about it, I'd probably start with this:

    -intense research

-be able to recognize the difference between opinions and facts

-form your opinions based on your own evaluation

-inform yourself about  why a lot of people believe and dont believe in GW (pay attention to both sides of the coin)

-don't take for granted what anybody says (particularly from those trying to force you to change your opinion)

-Respect whoever has a different opinion (there are no excuses for lack of respect),

-Politicians are a problem, they have the power to influence and alter the information we receive (about everything)

If you wish to be listened, you will have to give clear explanations and give answers based on logic. The best and honest way to do it, is by really understanding the issue. Of course that takes time.

  4. Global warming is a natural occurance. Humans should not try to affect the natural workings of the planet.

  5. You can look at your carbon intake on products. Stop driving if you drive a car. Cut use of your electricity. Do not leave water running while brushing teeth. Use less paper products, do not buy products with aerosols in them or CFC's. Buy an electric lawnmower to cut yard.  In other words, make a LOT of sacrifices if you are going to practice what you preach. In other words if you are not doing these things, get used to making sacrifices.  Make sure if you can live with that lifestyle before you get involved. Green living is not easy and can be expensive.

  6. listen to Dave he makes sense.

if half those blow hard and phony  hollywood types

would stop blowing all that hot air.

  7. If you really like to hear yourself talk that much, then just carry a voice recorder around with you during the day.  When your jaw gets tired, or when you're asleep or something, just replay the recording and that way you can still listen to your lips flipping.
