Where should I stay for the Ring of Kerry?

If I'm going to visit the Ring of Kerry, would I still be able to get there fairly quickly from Co. Cork, using the bus/rail? How long would it take? And would it perhaps be better to stay in Killarney?

stay in killarney.it took me about one hour 20 minutes to do the drive from cork to killarney,then we drove the Ring of Kerry,it took hours ,what with stopping here and there,the tractors and lorries slowing us down etc.anyways the lakes and mountains around killarney are so beautiful maybe you wont bother to drive the Ring,just go to muckross,molls gap,gap of dunloe,torc waterfall,ross castle,etc.man its a beautiful place in a fine country.enjoy.
