I am looking to settle down and possibly retire in another country, I like the idea of Norway,Denmark or Sweden because i like it there very much and I am of scandinavian heritage but it is so expensive, I like Uruguay safe, quiet, great weather, but is it cheap? I like a place with a very mild climate(average winter no colder than 40ºF and summer average no warmer than 80ºF) not to offend anyone but please dont say Ireland or Britain or France , I wouldnt want to move to anywhere in Europe except Scandinavia, Spain, Italy, Germany, or Turkey, I really like the idea of scandinavia but i don't want to spend $10 for a hot dog and $700,000USD for an average 3,000 sq. ft. home

  1. If you like the Scandinavian vibe but find it too spendy, try one of the Baltic states.  They are culturally linked with Scandinavia and are rapidly westernizing, so deals can still be found.  Turkey requires a bit more knowledge of local laws and language, but definitely travel for a while and get the feel for a place before making any investments.

  2. Before you go do some more research.  A couple periodicals can help; International living , Travel and leisure.  Good luck.

  3. I would suggest traveling before you commit to settling down. I can only speak from experience about west Europe. Germany is similar to Sweden so maybe you could start off on a week tour of Germany, France, Austria, and some surrounding areas. Eur-all passes are cheap and you can sleep inside the train! Happy traveling. :)
