Where should I travel to? (or think about spending a few months)?

I'm thinking somewhere like puerto rico or costa rica, I know nothing about any of those places down there and don't have that much money to spend but want to go somewhere beautiful. It should also be easy to fly to (no small plane travel). This trip is for me and my boyfriend.

Also any suggestions of the best website to book through? We will fly out of milwaukee or chicago so if you know of any direct flights that would be cool.

We are also thinking about looking for somewhere to live down there somewhere (again I no nothing about places down there) cheaply and safely for a few months possible so if you have any ideas for that too that would be great. Thank you!

  1. Puerto Rico is a beautiful place to travel. You didnt mention what type of things you like to do, but PR has so much for anyone. Also it is a commonwealth of the US, so that means no passport, USD money & more safe than other caribbean countries. Puerto Rico is a tropical island so the weather is in the 80's most of the time. There are beautifl beaches & lush green mountains.

San Juan is the biggest city & the main tourist area. You will find many historical sights here like El Morro, the ancient spanish warfort by the ocean. There is also hotels, casinos, shopping, restaraunts & nightlife. You will always have plenty to do. There are beaches & watersports in San Juan. Isla Verde & Condado are nice.

Outside San Juan you can also check out some poular sights like El Yunque rain forrest. You can walk down the trails to waterfalls where you can swim in the refreshing water. There is a bioluminescent bay where the water glows in the dark when you touch it. You take a kayak out to the bay & you can swim in the water. Its amazing. There is one in Fajardo & one on a seperate island called Vieques.Vieques & Culebra are seperate islands that are part of PR. They have gorgeous white sand beaches & the ferry is only $4 R/T.

You can also see Camuy Caves, the 3rd largest caves in the world. & Arecibo telescope, the largest radio telescope in the world. If you like to surf, Rincon is on the west coast & is the best surf town. The central part of the island has great mountain views. Ponce is in the south & its a cool city. Almost like a small european city w/ museums & plazas. Anything you want to do. Fishing & golfing is big too. To do all the activities its best to rent a car. Thrifty near the airport rents for less than $30 per day. Or you can take bus trips from San Juan if you dont want to drive.

Plane tickets to Puerto Rico are pretty cheap. Hotels can be expensive in San Juan. So do your research & find a decent hotel for a good rate, I like to use orbitz. & dont go during high season(Dec-Mar) b/c the prices are more. You can also check craigslist for vacation rentals which are cheaper or stay outside San Juan. Either way its gorgeous. Also living there is good b/c u get the feel of being in another country, but all the amenities of living in the US. But jobs are not easy to come by. ENJOY :)
