How old are your kids? There are some great tours and adventures based in San Ignacio. For younger kids you could do a river float or visit the mayan pyramid, Tikal in neighboring Guatamala. For older kids you can go caving. These can all be arranged through local tours. For snorkling adventures consider visiting a caye. You can also visit other mayan pyramids that are closer to the cayes.
