  1. Go to Dordogne area in southern France. There are plenty of castles including Beynac, Castelnaud, and Marqesaque. They are 5 euros or less to enter. They are beautiful and there are not that many tourists. There is also a beautiful river you can canoe down. It is really fun. It is not that expensive too.

  2. You don't say what time of year. Late summer, I would tour the Rhine Valley area that borders Germany. Really Old World, wine cafes on the sidewalks, little villages. It takes a car rental or a bicycle with some coins for ferry from time to time. You have to take Europe as it happens. Catch a live musical performance reading the posters.

  3. Here, you will find the opera festival in France : http://www.concertclassic.com/festival/r...

  4. I agree with Pete...

The north of France is a nice place to stay...

Lille is a beautiful city...It has an opera house (but the season ends in june)...

2nd biggest museum of fine arts in France and you won't have to queue forever to get in....

One of the biggest advantage of being in Lille is that you can be in Paris in one hour (with the fastest train on earth .. TGV)..

Lille is 2 hours away from London... Less than an hour from Brussels....

And 4 hours away from Marseille.... In case you'd like to visit the south of France ... Or just get the h*** away from the North of France if you don't like the place :-)... But i really don't see why you shouldn't like it... ;-)

    Website in english.. :-)

OH ! I almost forgot.... Some of the nicest and warmest people are in the north of France.... That's our reputation... A bit rough at first... But when you make friend with someone from the north of France, then you have a friend for life..!!!

And we know how to party .....

  5. In Paris

  6. May or October. How about the Paris Opera House? ;)

    Cheerio.

  8. I love Nord-Pas-de Calais and Picardy - the cities of Lille and Amiens have lots to see and feel like real France without as much tourism. Lille has an Opera house and as one of France's biggest cities will have a major cultural agenda.

  9. More interesting places to see for the younger generation would be Jim Morrison's grave and Oscar Wilde's grave... they're at the same location... I also liked visiting the filming locations of the movie Amelie... there's a holocaust memorial that was very sad... I would buy rick steve's book on Paris he gives you very good information to fully experience Paris like a local. The paris opera house is amazing! I highly suggest taking the tour or catching a show... it's the historical based Opera house for Phantom of the Opera.. a little known fact...
