  1. Does your school have a volunteer organization?  They usually have projects for students.  If your school requires volunteer hours, they should also have suggestions for you.

Otherwise, contact your church/religious home, nursing home, Salvation Army, humane society, nursing home, museums, Boys and Girls Club or similar place, shelters, soup kitchens.

Check your local newspaper for upcoming events that might need volunteers.  Contact a local political organization.

What kinds of things are you interested in?  Do you play an instrument?  If so, look for a group that performs for free that you could volunteer with.

Join an organization such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Campfire, etc.  Many of their activities are based on community service and can be counted for school.

  2. You can go to a nursing home or hospital and ask if they have anything. Also places like the library or learning/tutoring centers probably have something available. My choice would be an animal shelter though, they always need volunteers and it's fun to care for animals.

    Good luck.

  3. You could go volunteer at a Nursing Home spending time with the elderly. You could play cards, games and just basically listen to them talk. Elderly just want an ear to listen. It means the world to them. Good Luck!

  4. i went to the publc library, they usually have something there, i also serve at mass, which are really easy hours

  5. You might check these out and find a location near you.

    United Way (www.liveunited.org)

Give an hour. Give a Saturday. Give your best. We all have special talents. Things we can do to help. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. Whether it’s reading to children, or leading financial literacy classes for hard-working families, or delivering meals to homebound seniors, there are hundreds of volunteer options available every day.

    YMCA (www.ymca.net)

As a YMCA volunteer, you can lead an exercise class, read to a preschool class, coach a basketball team, cook for a bake sale, design a program brochure, greet people at the front desk, find items for an auction, serve as a role model for young people, help out in the office or at a special event, or be part of a group or committee working on a neighborhood problem.

You might also consider checking your local hospitals, nursing homes, and libraries. Older people love it when you come to visit them and just listen to what they have to say. You would be amazed about how good they feel just to have someone listen to them. And your local library may have some summer program that they take part in during the summer.

You might ask your school to start a program where you can help some of the local elementary schools in your area. Depending on what grade you are in. When I was in high school they had a service learning program where students were able to spend a class hour at a local school helping out in the classroom or in the office. I was able to work with kindergarten children and is the reason I am now taking classes to become a teacher!!

    Good luck!
