Where should i get a female guinea pig from?

I have a year old lonely Boar(male guinea pig) as the female that i got for him, unexpectedly died.(long story, dodgy supplier)

& i kept him with my adorable hand rearing Dutch cross bunnies but hes started to hump them....,anyway the question is should i get a breeding female from a rabbit breeder who now also breeds guinea pigs(they are silver & white Rex guineas) or good quality pet shop ones? 'Cos with some "show bred" rabbits i have had they aren't as long lived,is it the same with guinea pigs?

Please answer back as i have taken the bunnies out now & hes lonely....

I have previously bred guinea pigs & had about 25 at one time but now just have the 1,i know a good deal about them but if you breed them or have your own website, can you give me,some extra knowledge or your site?

As rabbits are my specialist subject but i want to know as much on guinea pigs as i do bunnies!

thank you for your time,

  1. You could go on Craigslist, and post an ad in the 'Community' category looking to a rabbit breeder, or what kind of guinea pig you want. Or just go to Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, etc.

  2. Prefferablely NOT a pet store.

    Maybe a breeder.

    Prefferablely an unwanted one from:

    hoobly.com

    craigslist.org

Edit: I'm pretty sure these websites have adds in the U.K. also. You'd have your best luck trying to finding a breeder on one of those and be clear on your intentions so they can help you out along the way. May I reccomend joing buying the ARBA's guide to "Raising Better Rabbits and Cavies(cavies's being Guinea Pigs)

  3. a pet store

  4. Don't breed:

    http://www.cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm

    http://www.guinealynx.info/breeding.html

    Adopt or rescue instead

    http://www.guinealynx.info/rescues.html

  5. The pet store 'Pets at Home'.

very reliable and they sell everything there seeing as it's like a supermarket for pets. also sell gawjuss guinea pigs lol

    (they have a web site)

  6. I would get one from a pet store. That's where i got my guinea pig.

  7. From the forest

  8. A pet store.

  9. If you plan to breed your boar, then you should get a sou.

But, you know, he would simply be just as lonely if you took her away again.

It wouldn't be fair to the female to have her pregnant all the time, no?

Another alternative is to get the boar neutered.

Yet another alternative is to get a male friend for the boar, but it REALLY depends on both of their natures, and if they don't mix well it could spell DANGER for both of them.

If you choose this option, it would be wise to watch them carefully for a few days or let them meet before you purchase the other boar.

  10. DO NOT GET IT FROM A PET STORE.

    i would adopt.

    try petfinder.com

i have five guinea pigs. one of them just passed away...she was 7 years old...i got her from a rescue...
