Where should i go on vacation with the family?

I am planning a vacation with the family for the summer. whats a great and not so expensive place to go. it could be a place for kids or not for kids. please no disney or universal studios. it must be in the us/canada. thanks for the help.

for  an inexpensive vacation with the kids camping and fishing, canoeing, swimming hiking would be the first on my list.  Take your pick on what park or forest to head for, it could be mountains, or flatter land.  If you like to primitive camp in tents you can find a place in either country where you do not have to pay to camp.  In the States any National Forest allows camping as long as you are not blocking a roadway.  In Canada any crown land is fair game for camping So there are places out there that can be enjoyed by the family for a very low price.

Well a lot depends on wut u like 2 do. Do u like horses? There r lots of Dude Ranches in the Western States, i would go to Jackson Hole WY, Theres great Camping in almost every state. If u like Hiking-Estes Park CO is beautiful watch out for altitude sickness if going up Pikes Peak. The Grand Canyon offers some great hiking, camping, whitewater rafting also. San Antonio is fun, colorful, and has the Alamo. CA has da Pacific FL. GA, AL, MS, LA & TX all have the Gulf of Mexico. And actually they still need help rebuilding in LA.MS. etc if u wanna teach the kids that they hav a civic & moral responsibility to help those less fortunate than urself. Ur local Renaissance Fairs or 4H Fairs r usually fun esp if ur city slickers so u get exposure about where ur food, clothes, etc come from. If ur more the museum types NYC, Boston has lots of historical sites as do alot of ur other "Original States" check out thier Chamber of Commerce sites or some have specific Tourist Info Sites.
