Where should you look when fighting someone?

Someone told me to look at the persons shoulders.

Is this the best place to be able to see the punches earliest?

If you are engaged in pugilism controlled aggression is the best policy, If you are unwilling to fight there are various ways of honourably withdrawing, but if you want to win say little the battle of words is unpredictable, maintain eye contact  and push forward if possible, a good opening blow is hard flat hand pushing upwards on the solar plxus

look in between their shoulders, look at them right in the eye , and stay calm, if you see movement either from the left or right side of the body you would know at what direction the punch is coming from, you cant look at the hands because the hands are to quik to keep an eye on(and never blink your eye), also look at your surroundings so you know what objects and area your in , if your in an outside area like in a feild , then you dont have the best luck , but if you were to be in a parking lot with cars , then you would know what to work with

Keep your eyes on the chest, your peripheral vision will allow you to see the whole body that way and you will see anything comming at you and have time to react.

If you watch the hands or look into their eyes it is very easy for the to fake you. nudging their head towards you or flicking their hand a little bit will cause you to flinch and give them the opportunity to attack.

So keep your eyes on the chest and keep at arms length from your opponent. A good way to keep distance is to keep extending your arm out towards their head and make sure your can just reach them with your arm fully extended.
