Hi everybody.

I have heard that some north american indian tribes were composed my individuals of remarkable phisical height and corpulence because they feed from elks, deers and buffalos. The protein and fat of this meat which was their main dish enabled them to grew tall.

Am I right?,

How tall where the north american indians?, how they looked?.

Can anybody go deeper in this topic?.

Thanks in advance.

  1. From my own experience, I know a few Native American men whom all have a very large build, very tall and large bone structure, most being over 6'3". May not be true of all Native Americans, I am sure that size varies by location. We can only base a large amount of our image of past Natives on paintings by European Explorers who would have tainted the view of Natives to perhaps show a superiority over them.

  2. How big were American Indians?

They range in size from average to skeletons up to 7 feet tall found in Tuckerton, NJ, but that was by early settlers plowing their land.  Putting the bones together, they figured that these Indian bones were just under seven feet tall.  At least two skeletons were reported over a period of time.

But truly, American Indians were as tall or taller than their European counter parts who ranged from average heights of five foot six or seven to six feet tall.  There are almost no reports of midgets or giants, at least not by colonial settlers.

There are at least three sources of emmigration to Turtle Island after the great Glacier event.  Across the southern Pacific, across Asia through Alaska, and some unproven boats from the Mediterranean.  Theory is those lines have become extinct.  DNA will figure that out over time.

Some of that tall straight Indians was attributed to mothers who tied their babies on back boards to keep their babies straight and strong, let alone for women to do their daily work with their children nearby.

Fathers, and men, were more often the nanny's with permissive child rearing for the older children, at least for most of the studies I have done for the eastern tribes.  There are always variations, just as there are for the European models, but I have posted Traditional Indian Values verses European Industrial Values as put forth by the American Indian Education Commission in a couple of places.  Just google it up.

Check out the new Y-DNA study and see how the intermixing of tribes just blows away the European models.   On average, tribes would range far and wide to steal healthy women to populate the tribal ranks as they knew that having wives within a small group made for sickly weak children with only a few strong exceptions.  Depending on how far a war party wanted to range, women could be stolen from as far as 800-1000 miles away.  Most of this range depended upon rivers, or what trails must be traveled to get from here to there.  Things like how good the game was that year, how much resistence from other tribes encountered along the way might shorten a trip real fast.

    Does that help?
