Question:

Where specifically in Africa is Plumbing really needed?

I'm in my first year in college majoring in Plumbing and I feel led to go to a third world country (Africa pops in my mind). I want to use my skills to really help people that are in dire need of clean water and clean sanitation. I want to help prevent deadly toxins in these areas and increase the chances of survival for people over there.

I know it's going to be a bad living, but I really don't care. America has enough Plumbing and the people aren't dying because their bathrooms are leaking. I want to die knowing that I helped people survive, not caring about how much money I made. I know it sounds crazy but money, although very important, isn't that big of a deal with me.

Also, do you know of any organizations that do these things?

Thanks!

  1. Yeah um, probably unless your plumbing can bring law and order, cease-fire, and bring down some rival militias as well as adding a functioning government to Africa then I think that's probably going to take priority of a flushing sh$%#er

  2. I am going to Africa soon and it will be nice to have some plumbing

  3. World Toilet Organization

Also, the UN has declared 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation, so you will find more information about who is doing what in the developing world regarding sanitation here:
