I went to Jimmy Olive's restaurant ---Fifteen Melbourne for dinner 3 weeks ago. The restaurant gave my cost to the wrong person and suspected that I did not bring the coat with me.Finally that was 1 coat left, they knew they given the wrong coat to somebody else, but they did not want to take the responsibility for the lost coat. I have rang them every second day,but they just played the ball with me. lost a coat just a small things, but I realy upset about their attitude and could not understand how that a such good reputable restaurant treat a customer this way.Is that because I am a aisa???

  1. Well to start, I hope this  restaurant didn't treat you badly because of your ethnicity.  It's sounds like they were pretty rude to you.

I would give up on calling them over the telephone.  Go to the restaurant and ask to speak to the owner or manager- preferably the owner.  Tell them exactly how you were treated the night your coat was lost, and how you have been brushed off since then.  Make sure to give the names of the employees that night and whoever you have spoken on the phone to.  This sounds like a fancy place having a coat check, and a place with a good reputation you said.  I would hope they would compensate you in some agreed way for your loss of property.  Because of the coat check, they are responsible and let them know that.  Be assertive but polite.

  2. Forget talking to the restaurant. Report them- I would try better business bureau. Have you thought about taking them to small claims court? I would just to make them take time out from their schedule. I doubt this restaurant did this because of your ethnicity. It's simple they made a mistake and don't want to own up to it. Also I would make sure to tell everyone this story. Losing customers will hurt them more than the lost coat.

  3. go to this website:

    http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au

    Consumer Affairs Helpline:1300 55 81 81

    they will help you out.

  4. Ok first thing I would ask myself if it is worth taking it further.

Was the coat expensive?  Are you likely to be able to find another one?  Would you be happy if they re-imbursed you?

Basically I am saying if this was some old coat that you have had for years, then maybe it's not worth the trouble.

I would write a letter about the situation and had deliver it to the manager. Explain in the letter what you expect to be done.

If you get nowhere there, send the letter to the head office which would be in the UK somewhere. And also at the same time, contact Consumer Affairs (I am not sure if this is the right department for complaints about service, you normally ring them if a store/business or whatever has treated you unfairly or ripped you off)

I do sincerely hope you were not treated unfairly because you are asian.  If you do have limited English, take a friend who perhaps speaks better with you to help.

    Good luck.
