  1. Ettal Monastery and Zugspitze Day Tour from Munich.

Departing Munich at 10:15am, you start your day with a visit to Ettal Monastery. Here you can get a glimpse of the lives of the Benedictine monks living at the monastery. Building of the monastery began in 1330 and due to the dedication and hard work of the resident monks, and at times knights, the structure is in pristine condition.

After your visit of the monastery, you will head to the highest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze which soars to 9,788 feet (2,962 meters). From Eibsee, you take the cable car to the summit of the mountain where, on a clear day, you can see the peaks of hundreds of Bavarian Alps mountains in Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

After you have enjoyed the panoramic views from the observation platform, you will descend the mountain onboard the Zugspitzbahn, a cogwheel train.

Try it its well worth it.....

  2. Zugspitze is too far and not interesting enough to sustain an hour of interest,

Schwabing is the hip place to go. (I lived there for 4 months) However, its composed primarily of places that are cool if your in your 20s or if you are part of any one of a number of clicks. Know where you are going to go if you go to Schwabing.

    1) Get a list of the different Breweries located in Munich, there are plenty within walking distance, or short tram ride of another, and easy to make a day of.

If your gonna go to the Englischer Gardens, and don't wanna hit up either of the Beer Gardens,(Chinesian Turm- will prob be close, Seehaus-is kinda expensive) its cool for short little nature walk, but not the coolest.

    2) The most people and best parties are gonna be in and around Karlsplatz, Viktalienmarkt, and Glockenspiel. (All right next to each other) The Augustiner Hall is along this strip and is a pretty good place for some good beer and good food. (Augustiner is the Budweiser of Munich - Best Beer Ever) The  Andechser Kneipe (A bar of beer made from Monks, its really good)

    3) The Castle Neuschwanstein (aka The Disney Castle) is a good 45 minutes away, its gorgeous, it has a inexpensive but informative tour, and is definitely good to eat up the better part of a day. The down side is the distance from Munich itself.

    4) Hofbrauhaus is the most obvious, its located just south of the Glockenspiel(the big Cucoo Clock and just West of Viktalien Markt) but don't go there during peak hours or you won't enjoy it.

    5) The corner of Leopoldstrasse and Hohenzollernstrasse is a center more or less of bars and clubs for Schwabing. It has  Subway/Buss/Tram access more or less a happening place for nightlife.

    Good Luck

  3. If you want to hang out in the cool places, you could do worse than head for Schwabing-lots of ace little bars & cafes. Most tourists head for the bierkellers too;-)

The English Garden is well worth a look, as is the cool gallery Pinakothek der Moderne. The Glockenbach quarter is pretty cool to walk around too. Try the Olympic park and go up the tower for a great view of the city.

You'll love Munich, beautiful city and friendly people.

  4. Munich is so much fun. For New Years I would reccomend going up to the Zugspitze ( about 80 km from Munich). You will have to make reservations. On a clear night you can see fireworks from all around.

Just get on the Muenchen website and check out the event calendar.

Hope you have a great time!
