Where the deuce is the Lost City of Atlantis?

I decided to undertake a remarkable voyage into the unknown and mysterious.

An old Ship Owner invited me to go on a trip in his Underwater Submersible Vessel. A fearsome metal beast, built and designed to represent a charging Sea-Bound Monster! With two big bulging eyes and a fearsome toothy snarling snout. Brrrrrr!

His numerous busy crew went to work, as myself and the Captain pored over an ancient map and was duly hushed in wonderment, as the Salty old Dog pointed at a strange Destination on the hand drawn Papyrus sheet. "What is this?" I inquire.

"This, is Atlantis! The Lost Civilization!" His eyes twinkled in enthusiasm.

"NO!" Squeaks I. "Is this true?" Well, it certainly appeared to be so, as authentic as anything I have seen before.

And so, on this crisp Morning, we left Sunny Plymouth as the Rabble Hallooed and waved their Hats and 'kerchief's about the air, as we slipped into the bowels of the Sea and gracefully rolled into the darkness.

Two days went by, time was passed as the Captain and I sang Hymns and songs of inspiration by his awesome, hand crafted Organ.

This was to keep the Morale of the Workers up and full of Vigor.

When suddenly. . . an eerie noise swept through the Vessel. All stood transfixed as the beautifully eerie wailings . . . . echoed around the Cathedral-like interior.

The Captain grabbed hold of me and motioned towards the Viewing Window.

We saw several Beautiful Women swirling in the Sea's Depths, all had billowing hair and fish tails for legs!

"Mermaids !" shouts I.

"No. . ," states the Captain ". . . Sirens. They are singing to us, these Daughters of the Sea". And indeed they were, they continued their Wassailings and guided us to the land of . . . Isle of Wight?

Dammit, the Captain roared, peering at the Map. It transpired that this was a fake. Hastily scribbled on a beer mat! The doddery old Duffer is sat now, sulking as he waits for me to relay this story through Yahoo on me LapTop with the hope that someone can give me the coordinates of this Fabled Land.

So, can someone give me the whereabouts of Atlantis? Then we'll go and have a look-see eh?

  1. It's 5 miles due west of Fleetwood.

  2. 'Tis thirty furlongs to the West of Avalon.

  3. Funny Co-incidence, V.G, but my old Sparring Partner, and erstwhile Cellmate, BadBeast went on a quest, for the very same Fabled Isle, not 3 days hence. He believed he had a secret tunnel entrance, pinned down, at the bottom of a flight of lock gates,on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

He told me, it led out to the Underground Sea of Valusia, which I admit, Ive never heard of,( only having a C.S.E grade 4 in Geography ) but he assured me it stretched from the foothills of the Himalyas, to Atlantis, which he believed to be somewhere in the Bristol Channel.Being somewhat wary of BadBeasts inspirational theories, (remember,I shared a Cell with him for 3 months  during the dark days of Thatcherism)   I told him I would come along with him, but only as far as this, alleged tunnel entrance, and there was no way I was getting wet, thinking that his rather short attention span would begin to falter, as his "medication" wore off.

But no, His enthusiasm seemed to increase as the night wore on, and I could not distract him from his fevered ranting, about "Guardians" and some kind of Ape creatures that were hiunting him.

I must admit, that i stopped listening to his garbled nonsense, some hour or two earlier, but as we neared the afore-mentioned lock gates, he became quiet, and reserved, and began peering around the shadows, muttering under his breath about how "time was running out" and "not long left now".Then he began beating at the bramble bushes with his silver tipped cane, yelling "come out, come out, you hairy little b******s" and all of a sudden, the bushes exploded, and 6 or 7 apeish shapes emerged, armed with stout cudgels, and set upon him. I was unable to reach him in time to assist in the despatching of these horrid chimpish rogues , but BB shouted, "its no good, you cant fight the report monkeys" , and i thought that was it, as he disappeared under a mass of screeching black fur.

But, in a Supreme effort of Martial Arts skill, and grim, determination, he fought his way free of them, and with a cry of " Tell Julia I love her" he adjusted his snorkel,  dived into the inky blackness of the K&A, and was gone, follwed by the remaining monkeys.

And that was the end of good old BadBeast. I can only hope that he found his way to that mythical Isle, as no body was found, but I fear the worst, that

he was so close to someones secret, that he was slain for it.

Theres a lesson for us all in there somewhere, but Im buggered if I can work it out.

    Any Ideas old Horse?

  4. Ahoy Matey! Thanks for the yarn. I dinna kno where the fabled city lies but all who go there end up in Davy Jones Locker. Beware the Mermaids for they be the daughters of the Alanteans and, having great powers, will brook no snoopin sailors near their beloved city of the deep.

  5. It is believed that it resides in the Mediterranean.

a strong candidate is the island of Santorini, about 200 km southeast from Greece's mainland. It is also known as Thera.

  6. my theory is that you should head for the Bermuda triangle. surely you brought your camera?

  7. Actually I have a map of the legendary place with all the necessary bearings that will enable you to reach that fabled land. If no one is looking or listening then I shall divulge the location, take passage on the Nautilus and head for the Western Ocean. May it be prudent at this stage to warn you that serpents and dragons inhabit the Western Ocean. Sail that craft for 40 days and 40 nights until you reach the land of of the Braggeryank critter, it is easily identified as it is adorned in a plaid shirt and a John Deere hat, caution they speak much and mean little. On reaching that land head south till you hear the Braggeryank uttering phases such as yeowl and hotdiggerty. Once there take passage east till you reach a green and pleasant land and hear the phase bonjour, it is only then that you have found paradise, Atlantis at last. Bon Chance!!

  8. It's somewhere inbetween your ears!

  9. Several different theories here. One is that it's centered around the area once inhabited by the ancient Minoans. Another has it in the far eastern Atlantic near the Straits of Gibraltar (beyond the Pillars of Hercules). Still another places it in the Caribbean around Bimini.

  10. It is a theory that Atlantis was full of POWERFUL people, too powerful for their own good, and whatever they did, separated Atlantis from the mainland. Man can't go to the depths of the ocean in some areas, so if it is down there, and I believe it is, you will never reach it.

  11. Atlantis was a city of giants.

  12.   I am sorry me old mariner matey, 'tis true that me old grandad told me that he knew where Atlantis was, but the spring broke in his compass and he couldn't find it again. Mind you, he always was a liar.

  13. It has been snapped up.  You can witness the  Fall of Atlantis and Festival Fountain shows in Las Vegas,  at Caesars Forum Shops,  Caesars Palace Casino.

    On the hour, every hour.

  14. Old chap, I think you are thinking of London in the year 2080?

  15. Many scientists and historians now believe that the myth of Atlantis was inspired by the true story of the Minoan palace culture -- a highly advanced ancient Greek civilization famous for creating beautiful palaces with rich murals and indoor plumbing (among other things).

This culture mysteriously vanished several centuries ago, but in recent years, evidence has surfaced which strongly suggests that a volcanic eruption trigged one or more gigantic tsunamis which wiped out most of the Minoans (including their powerful navy) and their culture, leaving the few surviving Minoans extremely vulnerable to foreign invaders who quickly took over their lands for their own!
