I watched the film Lady Jane, and she said she wanted a shilling to be a shilling. They brought her some new coins from the royal mint so were these with her on them?

  1. Elizabeth, thanks for that great link.  I've seen this film several times and know there are inaccuracies, but I never thought about that coin.  I do know that Jane didn't really love Dudley and wanted nothing to do with him.   That kind of kills the movie, doesn't it?  :-)

    Great question!

  2. No there were no coins struck of her during her brief reign.  There is a however a counterfeit you can see at the link provided it was created with the anticipation that she retained the crown.

  3. If you can call it a reign! I can't say that there were any in circulation, or that they last long enough to actually get around, honestly, nine days! That's celebration time, behind the scenes the would likely have started organizing the imagery for coins, crafting them, and the standards etc etc, but I have never heard or seen any such coin. If there was such a thing, as you said, it would worth a LOT. But these are what I found...

About three quarters of the way down.

    Cheers!
