Question:

Where there is water there is life

is this correct?

I just said this on another question I asked and someone else said that this was not necessarily true. However, even if you get some water from a natural spring and leave it in a pot, it will develop organisms that are essentially life aren they?

Or am I wrong?

thanks

  1. On earth, given the abundance of life, water will almost certainly hold life, unless you do something like distilling the water. The spring water would already contain micro-organisms.

In general, no. Where there is liquid water, there is only the potential for life, there are other requirements for life. Liquid water acts as a medium in which the molecules vital for life can be held, so they can interact. The molecules need to have a source and a stable environment in which to form.

  2. Water from a natural spring will already have life in it (microorganisms) if you sterilize water in a sealed container it will not contain life, and life will not develop in it untill it is introduced when the seal is broken. If life exists on Mars it will be in a very, very primitive stage. As life interacts with the environment it modifies the environment in ways which have created the atmosphere we have on our planet.

  3. You are correct.

  4. It is not true to say that where there is water there is life, but all living things are made from water. I have tangible evidence for the following. Do you know that this fact as well as around a thousand other very significant scientific facts that have only been discovered in the past 200 years are CLEARLY stated in the Quran which was revealed 1400 years ago. Even the non  Muslims believe that the Quran is the only unchanged scripture in the world. So what is the origion of the Quran. Look at some sources below. A MUST. please

  5. If your refering to mars no i think the science is wrong

  6. maybe not life as we know it but the beginning of life on mars maybe.say the space craft that landed carried some bacteria to the planet how long before it develops who knows ,the possibilitys of life are endless

  7. You timed your question brilliantly cos a Mars lander is doing water tests as we speak.....

  8. THERE IS LIFE ON MARS

    TYPE IN GOOGLE

    NASA CONFIRMS WATER ON MARS

  9. you are correct, as far as we on earth know!

  10. The life you are seeing in that pot is probably due to microscopic bacteria in the water, which grew when you took it home.

I think where there is water, you have a good chance for life to develop. Scientists also believe life could be created in methane. I think water is good for life to begin, mainly because its a good solvent which means molecules can react in water to form more complex molecules and on and on, until we get something that can build life (plants, bacteria etc) such as amino acids.

  11. You are correct in saying that on Earth, anywhere you choose to put some water out, (prety much!, unless it freezes or evaporates first) you will soon find life polluting it!

We see water as essential to life as we know it, and I see life as being "widespread" in the Universe, after seeing some really freaky acidophilus (acid-loving) organisms which live in the most awful conditions (toxically-high sulphur levels, high acid levels, no sunlight) in damp pools in Californian cave systems.  Life, it seems, will struggle to exist, adapt and survive.  And I'd love to see some ancient, wise life forms visit here, to pull the skids under our bickering religions.

There is proof of complex organic processes on Mars - evidence of a primitive life form.  It was there a long time ago, I doubt it will have died out.

  12. no. water is just hydrogen and oxygen.

life is attracted to water, and needs water to survive, but just because there's water doesn't mean there's life.
