Okay. So, I would like to buy a hand fed baby african grey. And by that I mean that its not like a baby baby. Like just hatched. Not like that. I mean like 1 year old. I live in Garden Grove ,California. I could go to like Westminster and farther. But, not to another state or anything. And also I would like to buy it pretty cheap. Its okay if I buy it at normal price. So, you don't have to worry about that. Just a good price or cheaper. Thanks. :)

  1. No offense but if you want a excellent companion that knows and trusts you I would not go the adoption route they can be a challenge and then some if not down right aggressive. Look for a quality breeder in your area that will work closely with you and let you visit the baby until the breeder is finished weaning it....this is the best time to get a bird, as soon as it is ready.  Good private breeders also work out payment plans. You can look up breeders in bird magazines or on line for area breeders. check them out and see if they have referrals

  2. from what i know most greys tend to be around $1,200 in pet stores. i live in virginia though. try looking online to find breeders near you. they tend to charge a little less cuz there is no middle man. birds are not cheap. neither is keeping them alive with food and toys and cages. keep in mind, you will have a two year old kid, covered in feathers, for as long as it lives.

  3. Be very careful about "cheap" birds!  A south Texas dealer had cheap birds.  Turns out they were smuggled into the country and had not been through proper quarantine and preventive antibiotic treatment.

Look in a magazine such as "Bird Talk" for breeders in your area.  Visit the breeder and ask to see the facilities where the birds are kept.  The breeder may not let you enter an area where the birds are nesting but certainly the area in which birds for sale are kept should be clean. They should be clean and in good repair.  Find out what foods the breeder uses.  Ask about what guarantees are provided.  If the breeder is reluctant to let you see the facilities or provides inadequate information about the feeding and care, look for another breeder.  If the bird you are buying is not weaned from hand-feeding, get the formula and supplies you need to continue the feeding and procedure for weaning the baby.

Hand-fed birds can be very charming pets!  Good luck!

  4. If you really love birds, try to ADOPT! People are abandoning their pet birds all over the United States and the adoption facilities are filled to the brim with pet birds with no loving and caring owners. Look on the web at adoption websites. You will be APPALLED. You pay very little to adopt a bird.

Why not consider a cockatoo? They are the intellectual equivalent of Greys - if not more - and love to be petted, touched, and trained. Save a life.

  5. See if you can find a breeder... they usually have lower prices than a pet store.

  6. People shouldnt be looking for hand fed birds, what you SHOULD be looking for is a hand REARED bird...its two completely diffrent things...find a reputable breeder online shipping is usually around $150 dollars. But since you are looking for hand fed african greys you should google "old world aviaries" and they sell hand fed africans for cheaper than most breeders.

  7. ADOPT ONE !
