You can find them in any department store and the design doesn't really matter. The most important thing to remember is size. You don't want them to be too tight or too loose.

I like the Haynes comfort band kind. Any store should have them.

What also depends on how he dresses. If he wants to "sag" a little he might want a "better" brand of boxers, if there going to be shown off more.

But hes old enough, just go shopping with him and see what he likes.
