Hi, I teach art at a preschool and I'm looking for an art supply store with a variety of art and craft supply in New-York City. Do you know of anything? (Michael's and Pearl-Paint are too expensive for us...)

  1. If you are willing to shop on line look at discountschoolsupply.com and sign up for their e-mail specials. Their paints etc. are very good and they have incredible sales every week. Don't use their cheap crayons, stick to Crayola. They have pretty good prices on that.

  2. I go to Dollar Tree they have ALOT of art stuff.

  3. I shop at www.discountschoolsuppy.com

www.kaplan.com, sometimes www.lakeshore.com, also www.crayola.com has some specials. ebay. and target will also domate if you can get a letter from your director organization. Good luck

  4. target, walmart, a dollar store

  5. Here in England we have places where companies donate  'art materials' -e.g  used backing paper from displays & presentations/envelopes/card...allsorts really. It's a case of one man's rubbish is another man's treasure (or woman's!). It may be worth finding out if you have something like this, or start one(!), or contact companies. We saved a fortune using this system.

  6. Not sure what's in the city but here upstate you can find alot ot good stuff like that in many dollar stores like "family dollar" "dollar general" "Yankee $1"or "dollar tree"

  7. First - Target is not cheap.  Wal-mart usually has a poor selection.

Michaels isn't cheap - but can be if you watch for sales and use coupons.

However, for consistently good prices and selection, I like Oriental Trading.

    www.orientaltrading.com

    Good Luck

  8. The Dollar Store or Michaels.

  9. If you want cheap and good: Target

    Cheap and adequate: Waltmart

    Just cheap: 99 Cents Store

  10. I get most of my supplies online at either:

    www.discountschoolsupply.com

    or

    www.orientaltrading.com

I used to shop almost exclusively at discount school supply, but oriental trading co. has really been expanding their teacher materials sections.  I also shop at Michael's and AC Moore when they put out their coupons.  AC Moore has a coupon every week for 40% off one regular-priced item.  I'll go, get my one item, and go home.  Then I'll do it again next week, until I don't need anything else.  Michael's has coupons every week, too.  And they accept each others coupons, if only one of those stores is near you.  And I'm always scouring Dollar Tree for good stuff!

In August, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot run sales on certain items each week.  They usually limit it to 5 per person; so I take my family with me.  I got Elmer's glue for 10 cents each, 24 count box Crayola crayons for 25 cents each, boxes of pencils and plastic pencil boxes for 10 cents each, and 12 count boxes of Crayola colored pencils for 25 cents each.  I know it's too late for this year, but don't forget to check those ads next August!  And go on the first day of the sale, before everything is gone.  I missed the markers this year.

Becker's has a sale on everything in July (so you can get what you need for the next school year) if you are on their mailing list.

I also have a 15% code for Discount School Supply, good 'til Dec 31, 2007.  I got it at my local naeyc convention: enter NJ15 as key code at checkout.  (Free shipping over $79)

Oriental Trading Co. is always running free/reduced shipping deals.  Check www.naughtycodes.com for current codes.

  11. The best are the artist supply catalouges.

  12. I did'nt  know there was anything cheap in NY but aside from that

WallyWorld is the place for me
