  1. well your bestbet is too go too a horse race bet on a horse and hope you win

  2. talk to the owners or look them up on www.dreamhorse.com

  3. Check out CANTER web site.

They have many horses that are available to adopt and they also have trainer listed horses that are either on the track or getting ready to retire that the owners are looking to place into new homes.

With the trainer listings you have to make an appointment and go and see the horses.

  4. there are several foundations that allow you to adopt, some will NOT allow first time horse owners to adopt an ex race horse though. You honestly need to be an accomplished horseman/woman to handle most horses that come off the track.

Look into TRF ( Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation)

ReRun ( doesn't allow 1st time owners to adopt)

New Vocations ( has both TB's and Standardbreds... Standardbreds can and do make wonderful companion animals!)

    Bright Futures Farm

    C.A.N.T.E.R.

here is a list of other organizations, you can look for one near your home: http://horseracing.about.com/od/equinech...

  5. Depending on where in the world you are, most trainers in the likes of new zealand and Australia will rather give their retired horses to good homes where they'll be looked after than sell them. It's not a common practise to send them to the knackers yard as the tree huggers and hippys try lead the general public to believe. Just talk to your local trainers they'll no doubt put you in touch with someone as long as your capable and have the suitable facilities
