I'm a beginner and I'm not sure what shoes to get. At the moment I am wearing joggers and I can't seem to stay on the wall! Any help about shoes would be appreciated. Thanks.

  2. If you do find a store to try different shoes on, find the correct size for you (usually in European size 38-45) and then order the same set online.  I recently purchased a pair of $125 La Sportiva Venoms for $87 so definitely look online to buy.  You wanna stay with these brands: La Sportiva, Scarpa, Evolv, Mad Rock, Five Ten (5.10).  If you wanna jump right into the sport; you are strong and physically fit for strenuous routes but you'd rather have performance than comfort, then go ahead a buy an aggressively downturned shoe for harder routes.   If you want to stay comfortable in the beginners area then buy a straight shoe because the performance shoes HURT AND ARE REALLY TIGHT OUCHOUCH.

  3. Hey there....I'm from Perth too, and I've had a passing interest in rock climbing, definitely something i want to try.

I'm sure if you walk around the city centre (Hay Street.. I think past Boffins bookstore) there are 2 shops I know of: Mountain Designs and Mainpeak. I think your best bet is to have a chat, if anything, to one of the guys or girls working there and ask them what the best footwear is for a beginner.

They are predominantly camping supplies, but you'll find they have things for rock climbing too. I'm sure there are a few stores of this nature littered across hay st and around the city.

Good Luck, I hope this helps.
