Question:

Where to donate old clothing in NYC?

I have a bag of old jeans (about 6 or 7) that I need to get rid of. I would rather donate to the less fortunate than throw them away, but I looked all over yahoo and google and can't find a donation place around Columbia University (116th and broadway) where I live. Can someone please tell me a place within reasonable walking distance(max 15 blocks, i'm not lazy it's a heavy bag!) Or a salvation army drop box that anyone happens to know that's near this area? Thanks.

  1. You can try craigslist.com. Someone may be looking for jeans or clothes in general. They'll come and get them.

  2. Roy Boy is right on about freecycle.  It's an excellent organization, with groups literally everywhere. If your jeans (or anything else you want to give away) are in good shape, someone is sure to want them. You can either meet the person somewhere or let them come by your house (but I would not recommend that).

  3. i absoultly love this site its a place you can go if your in need of something as well as if you have something to give  and you dont even have to leave your house if you dont want to....good luck

  4. When I was in California, I noticed that the Good Will there had thrown much of it's donations in the trash! They were receiving more donations than they could use! What a pity.

I know New York City, I would say that if you can't find a place to donate, leave the jeans out on the street in the morning on a day the weather is good (no rain) Someone will come along and take them.
