You can get the student version at a big discount, or you can get Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro for even less.

Of course, GIMP is a very powerful photo editing package that's completely free!

i use gimp, it's pretty sweet. works just as good as photoshop. but, you can get a like 30-day trial on their website. otherwise, beware of trying to get key codes online.. that absolutely destroyed my computer.
