  1. Here are some statistics:

  2. That might be hard since not all states require homeschoolers to "register" so to speak. HSLDA.org might be able to give you some information. Though most of this site is about legal issues.

  3. http://www.nheri.org/content/view/199/

Keep in mind, though, that accurate statistics are difficult because many states do not require homeschoolers to register.

  4. The National Home School Research Institute.

    http://www.nheri.org/

They have the most accurate statistics to date.

Statistics are only as up to date as the information provided, and since not all states have registration/notification requirements the actual numbers of home school families is generally higher.

Also many states require no registration of students who no longer fall under the mandatory attendance law so high school students are often times under reported as are kindergartners if the law does not require registration/notification until ages 6 or 7.

Kindergarten in the USA is not mandatory.

  5. You won't be able to find accurate statistics. Why not? Because in at least a few states, parents do not have to register in any way and are considered private schools. Those states don't even know how many private schools there are, much less how many homeschoolers there are.

The estimated number of children homeschooling in the US is 1-2 million. Some estimate even higher.
